Finish Options

STANDARD STAINS. –

Chris’s Custom Cabinets offers more than seventy different standard stain and finish options. All wood parts are sanded, stained and hand-wiped to bring out the natural beauty. After a sealer is applied, they are oven cured. Wood parts are then hand rubbed for the final catalytic topcoat to be applied for final oven baking. This combination of topcoats and oven curing achieves the ultimate in appearance, durability and long lasting luster and beauty.

SPECIAL FINISH PROGRAM. –

We have developed this program to create orders for special stain and paint finishes on an individual basis. This is for colors not in our standard selection of finishes. This is for the homeowner who is seeking something unique that can only satisfy their individual tastes. We can do it! We will create this authentic finish just for you.

FINISH OPTIONS. –

Finish options express your styles, and Chris’s Custom Cabinets has many to choose from. We have listed many of our options for you to view.

Glaze – Glazing gives your cabinetry a truly special touch. Glazing is an artistic furniture finish that can be used to add depth, enhance wood grain, highlight moldings or create an antiqued appearance. Glazed finishes add richness and warmth to any wood surfaces – and to any room.

Distressed – Distressing gives an aged timeworn look to cabinetry, reminiscent of antique furniture. Distressing is a random process consisting of small nicks, subtle dents, chicken pecks and scratches applied to the wood surface. There will be no two pieces alike.

Chaulk Finishes – Chaulking is a brushed finish that is applied to a glazed set of cabinets. It gives the look of a heavilyy glazed application that is applied with a paintbrush, leaving light brush marks instead of the standard glazing process which is hand wiped.

Rub Through – This is a process of wearing down (sanding) edges on the corners and edges of the door and door panels. This rubbed through process is done randomly. This best simulates what would be expected from years of wear. This finish option can be combined with the glaze or distressed options.

Wire Brushing – This is a form of distressing that creates line scratches in the wood. This is not included in our standard distressing because this process is very dominant in appearance and is usually used to achieve an old world appearance. This option can be added to our distressing option.

Fly-Specking - Is random distribution of small, pigmented “specs” on the finish surface. These are then sealed with our catalyzed sealer and topcoat.  This can be combined with our other distressing options to your taste.

Scrape –  This type of distressing simulates various objects scraping against the cabinet over a period of time. Scraping is applied during the finishing process, allowing marks to be sealed and top coated. This form of distressing is not included in the standard distress option.

Chicken Pecks – This is a simulation of small holes in wood as one might expect on aged pieces. It resembles the look of wormholes or of a chicken pecking several tiny holes in small areas on the wood's surface. They are placed in groups and randomly spread. Chicken pecks are included in our standard distressing but may be ordered alone.
